On the 6th March 2001, Lord Derby and Stanley House Stud welcomed the birth of a foal during a busy breeding season, that filly foal was to have a far reaching influence on the stud and its future.
The filly born on that night was named Ouija Board, the rest as they say is history.
Ouija Board raced on 22 occasions between the ages of 2 and 5, amassing winnings of over £3,500,000 along with plenty of air miles along the way. She recorded 10 wins and 9 places from a 22 race career and gathered admirers from around the world.
She was trained by Ed Dunlop in Newmarket (U.K.), just a couple of miles up the road from her birth place. She raced all over the world, UK, Ireland, France, America, Tokyo, Dubai and Hong Kong during her immensely successful racing career.
Ouija Board won 7 Group 1 races and was one of the most successful horses in the history of the Breeders Cup. Her exploits on the track saw her crowned European Champion Three Year old filly (2004), Eclipse Award winner for outstanding Female Turf Horse (2004 and 2006), European Horse of the Year (2004 and 2006) and European Champion Older Horse (2006).
At the end of 2006, Ouija Board was retired from racing. Her career was nothing short of remarkable, she truly was a star that would forever shine brightly.
Ouija Board began her career as a broodmare in 2007 and returned to Stanley House Stud later in that year following a success covering by Kingmambo.
Ouija Board has had 5 foals to date, 5 winners, most of whom raced, like their mother, all over the world including the UK, Australia, Germany, Ireland, Dubai and France.
Her only daughter Filia Regina remains at the stud to continue the bloodlines for the family, a family that has been part of the Stanley House Stud for many years. She is still early in her broodmare career and we have high hopes that she will produce some good racehorses in the future.
Her two sons, Australia and Frontiersman need no introduction.
Australia is the son of Champion sire Galileo, bred to be a champion. The chesnut son of Galileo is a multiple Group 1 winner including the 2014 Derby at Epsom and the Irish Derby at the Curragh. Following in his mother’s footsteps he raced nationally and internationally before being retired to stand at Coolmore in Ireland. He has some talented and promising youngstock on the ground.
He was the first and only Derby Winner out of an Oaks winner by a Derby winner in history.
Frontiersman is by Dubawi (one of only a few foals born to Dubai Millenium). A private purchase from the stud in 2014, led to Frontiersman going into training with Charlie Appleby (Godolphin) at Moulton Paddocks. Unraced at 2 following a couple of setbacks Frontiersman made a positive impact during the rest of his racing career. He was unlucky not to win the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom and was Group placed on many occasions. He won 4 of his 16 starts and now stands under the Godolphin banner at Overbury Stud.

Ouija Board was awarded the H J Joel Salver for Flat Broodmare of the year in 2014, thanks to her winning son Australia.
Ouija Board still has a large following throughout the world in the wake of her exploits as an exceptional racemare. Through the racing careers of her offspring the spotlight once more underlines her class as a racemare and breeding prospect.
The Globetrotting, Classic winning mare Ouija Board passed away at Stanley House Stud in November 2022. She will be laid to rest alongside Ouija her Grandam at the Stud.
Lord and Lady Derby paid tribute to their beloved mare in The Racing Post . Ouija Board was a mare in a million.
