Filming

The perfect filming location

Behind the imposing iron gates, Knowsley Estate offers a very private and tranquil destination for all manners of filming, whether it be for a period production or a contemporary piece.

Our historic estate has extensive private grounds offering a hugely diverse, flexible filming location. The main property on the estate is the stately home Knowsley Hall which dates back to 1385 and is surrounded by manicured gardens and parkland.

The estate has played host to a range of filming productions over the years, including popular British soaps Coronation Street and Hollyoaks who are frequent visitors. In 2019 the BBC filmed TV documentary ‘Great British Railway Journeys’ with presenter Michael Portillo, who was taken on a behind the scenes tour with the 19th Earl of Derby. In 2021 we welcomed three TV drama’s; ‘The Ipcress File’ on ITV, Stayclose on Netflix and Peaky Blinders on BBC where scenes for Season 6 were filmed. The Estate has also been used for photoshoots for various clothing brands and luxury cars as a fantastic backdrop.

There are a variety of other types of buildings located within the grounds that offer a stunning architectural range, whilst the landscape includes untouched parkland, pristine lakes, stunning gardens and rolling farmland along with 25 miles of tarmacked unmarked roads making them ideal for period dramas.

Knowsley Hall and Park is in a perfect location, situated between Manchester and Liverpool, making them easily accessible by motorway. Liverpool Airport is only 15 minutes by car and Manchester airport 35 minute drive away. Being a private estate we offer the benefit of having ample open spaces to accommodate large film crews with their unit base and vehicles.
