Over 600 years of
revered history

The Knowsley Estate has been in the ownership of the Stanley family since 1385, and from that time the family has been closely intertwined with the history of England as a whole. King Henry VII created Lord Stanley the 1st Earl on the battlefield of Bosworth; the 7th Earl was beheaded for his loyalty to Charles 1; the 12th Earl started the world-famous horse race and the 14th Earl was Prime Minister to Queen Victoria three times.

Throughout the centuries the Knowsley Estate has been adapted to many different uses and now its time for your guests to be part of our history.

Exquisite Dining

The Derby family have been renowned for their hospitality for six centuries and, at Knowsley Hall, we pride ourselves on maintaining this tradition with the highest quality ingredients and food provenance.

There are many options that can be tailored to your taste, be it a grand banquet in our State Dining Room, a hearty barbeque in a real Canadian log cabin or a secret afternoon tea in an 18th Century Octagon Temple.

There will be the option to dine in your choice of location in the Hall or the wider Estate for lunch or dinner.  Ingredients are sourced fresh where possible from the Knowsley Estate, faultlessly prepared, beautifully presented and courteously served making your dining experience a truly memorable occasion.

"The food was absolutely stunning, the choice on the menus was varied and we were delighted with the food quality and presentation."

Explore the grounds

You will leave the Knowsley Estate with memories that will last a lifetime from your choice of activities which include bicycling around the perimeter fence of Knowsley Safari finishing with a BBQ at an original Canadian log cabin in the woods, ramble along the lake to a feast in the Octagon Temple, explore the Capability Brown designed gardens and have a tour of the Kitchen garden.  For the more adventurous there are water sports on one of the Estate stunning lakes and miles of hacking if you wish to bring your horse or ponies. To unwind start or end the day with Yoga or Pilates in the Stucco Ballroom.

Exclusive Activities

When it comes to the great outdoors, 2,500 acres of private parkland offers the most stunning backdrop for a whole host of outdoor pursuits including, clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, water sports and the highlight of going on a cycling safari around the perimeter of Knowsley Safari.

If you are looking for activities to enjoy inside the house we can arrange wine and gin tastings, history talks and tour of our art collection that would not be out of place in a museum or gallery.  Relax and unwind with Yoga or Pilates in the Stucco Ballroom. We also have the award winning Chill Out Spa located on the Knowsley Estate.

Just outside the park walls the Shakespeare North Playhouse is being built in Prescot.  This is a 350 seat Elizabethan theatre being constructed in oak and modelled on the cockpit-in-court design popular during the Elizabethan era.  It is on target to open in the summer of 2022.

We offer a range of estate experiences as upgrades to your stay and would be delighted to tailor a package of activity to meet your requirements.

“Staying at Knowsley Hall makes you feel really looked after! It’s so easy to get to and there are lovely touches everywhere such as Bamford products in all the bathrooms. With the highest quality linen and all the gorgeous antiques on display everywhere you feel like you are an esteemed guest rather than a paying one. The location of the Hall is so close to the city centre that you can have all the fun of town and country together. It’s rather unique. The food is unbelievable our party were all amazed at how lunch and dinner were so varied but still made with local produce – very impressed. We look forward to returning soon for another private stay as our group want to make it an annual event.”
